This game is dedicated to my three grandchildren — Owen (9), Solal (3) and Emily (3) — with lots of love from Grandad, and the hope that they will have fun playing the Loop Game with their friends.
🎭 The Loop Game
A cooperative game of connection and discovery for 5-12 children
🎯 What is the Loop Game?
The Loop Game is an active, social game where players must find each other to complete loops. Each child wears an animal mask and receives cards telling them who to find — but here's the twist: they form closed loops, so everyone is both seeking AND being sought!
Imagine: You're the Elephant. Your card shows "Elephant → Koala" — you need to find the Koala. But meanwhile, the Lion has a card showing "Lion → Elephant" — they're looking for YOU! When everyone finds their connections, the loop is complete.

🎭 The 12 Animal Characters
Each animal has a name starting with the same letter in both English and French — making this a bilingual game!
📋 How to Play
Setup
• Each child is assigned an animal character (wearing a mask or badge)
• The supervisor distributes cards according to the round configuration
• Each child receives exactly ONE card per round
Gameplay
• On "GO!", children look at their card and start finding the animal shown
• When two children connect, they stay together and keep searching
• The loop is complete when everyone in the chain connects back to the start
• First complete loop wins the round!
🔄 Types of Loops
Start simple and gradually increase complexity:
Pairs (2)
A ↔ B
Easiest! Just find your partner.
Triplets (3)
A → B → C → A
Three players form a triangle.
Quads (4)
A → B → C → D → A
Four players in a square.
Big Loops
A → B → ... → A
Everyone in one giant chain!
⚠️ The Odd-Man-Out Option
A powerful teaching moment
In some rounds, one player receives a card pointing to someone in a loop — but nobody points back to them. They search and search, but can never complete their connection.
This isn't cruel — it's educational. When the "odd one out" is revealed, children experience firsthand what exclusion feels like. This creates empathy and opens discussions about inclusion.
🌟 Educational Value
The Loop Game isn't just fun — it teaches valuable life lessons:
🤝
Cooperation
Success requires working together. You can't complete a loop alone — everyone must participate and help each other.
🎲
No Fixed Teams
Partners change every round. No one can be rejected — the game ensures everyone plays with everyone.
💭
Empathy Building
The odd-man-out option lets children safely experience exclusion, building compassion for others.
🏃
Active Play
Children move, search, and interact. It's physical, energetic, and gets everyone off their seats!
🏆
Cooperation Ranking
Optionally track results across rounds. The winners aren't the fastest or smartest — they're the best cooperators. You simply cannot score well alone!
